Community Sports Fund

Grants for the establishment/enhancement of sport and recreational events in Welland and Pelham.

Purpose

To increase awareness, profile and encourage growth of both existing and new sports events in the communities of Welland and Pelham.

Amount of Grant 

Grant amounts will vary dependant on:

1. Dollars contributed to the fund in the granting year (Only 67% of dollars raised in granting year will be granted out. Remaining 33% will remain in the fund for future growth)
2. Number of applicants
3. Once approved 75% of the grant will be forwarded to the grant recipient 

Consideration will be given to

• Sports and recreational organizations that are involved in local events to be hosted in the communities of Welland or Pelham
• Groups, businesses, organizations creating charitable sporting and/or recreational events
• Grants will be awarded to those who meet the grant applicant criteria

Grant Application Criteria

1. Applying organization must be a non-profit entity, and be based in the communities of Welland or Pelham
2. The event must be hosted in the communities of Welland or Pelham
3. The applicant must identify how many local (Welland/Pelham) residents will be participating
4. The applicant must identify how many participants from outside our local area will be participating
5. Funding will not be provided to cover off any administrative costs
6. Funding is intended to provide additional resources to expand an event or create a new event
7. Within 30 days of the event a final report summarizing the successes, challenges, and future plans of the event, as well as a detailed budget of the grant money must be submitted.  Upon receipt and review of this final report the remaining 25% of the grant will be forwarded to the grant recipient.
8. The chamber logo must be present on all associated marketing materials for the event.

Selection Process

The number of grants awarded each year will be dependant on the number of submissions, and quality of submissions.  Eligible interested applicants will be required to submit an application (including any other documentation as required), and may subsequently be required to go through an interview process.  The selection committee will make their recommendation to the Board of Directors of the Welland/Pelham Chamber of Commerce, who will give all final approvals.
